Sony has announced the next batch of free PS Plus games, and there’s a fantastic FPS among them.
Leading the free PS Plus game pack for October is Superhot, an action movie wrapped in a puzzle shooter. The core trick of the indie game is that time only moves when you do, allowing you to dodge bullets and grab weapons in midair as you fight your way through a series of challenge rooms. Combat is frenetic, and its time-bending gunplay makes it a refreshing remix of a well-trodden genre.
Originally released on PC in 2016, before coming to PS4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch, Superhot caught the eye with its sleek, abstract look. We believe that its good mix of tactical maneuvers and chaotic bullets makes it one of the best FPS games on the market. Its VR spinoff – Superhot VR – is also one of the best VR games to play, brilliantly demonstrating the medium’s potential.
On a blog post (opens in new tab), Sony has announced that Superhot will be joining the 2017 superhero fighting game Injustice 2. From the creators of Mortal Kombat, Injustice pits a bunch of DC superheroes against each other in ridiculous beat-’em-up matches. up. You can play through their single player campaign to stop the evil Superman or jump straight into an online fight to smash (or get smashed).
Hot Wheels Unleashed will also be available. Arcade racing game lets you collect, build and drive the titular toys as well as create your own tracks in a pretty powerful track builder. It also features two-player split-screen and pretty chaotic 12-player online multiplayer modes. The game may be based on a toy line, but it’s a surprisingly comprehensive arcade racing game.
All three games are available to PS Plus Essential, Extra and Premium members from Tuesday, October 4th through Monday, October 31st. Subscribers will have until Monday, October 3 to download last month’s batch of free games: Need for Speed Heat, Granblue Fantasy: Contra and Toem.
